About RulesForge
Last updated: 2026-08-11
RulesForge is an AI-powered tabletop roleplaying platform at rulesforge.net. An AI Game Master narrates interactive adventures in real time — solo or with friends — and a full toolkit lets you design your own game systems, build characters, and live inside a persistent shared world. RulesForge runs in any modern web browser and as a mobile app. We are currently in a soft launch: everything below is live today — except the Seasonal World, which is in closed testing with invited players — but you may still run into rough edges while we polish. Thanks for adventuring with us early.
Two Ways to Play: Game and Story
Every adventure starts with one choice: Game or Story. Game mode is a full tabletop experience — real dice rolls shown in the story, your character sheet in force, rules and consequences enforced by an AI Game Master. Story mode is pure interactive storytelling — the very same storyteller, with the rulebook set aside: no dice, no sheets, just you and the narrative, and a one-sentence hero description is all it takes to begin. Pick a mode, then choose from scenarios tailored to it. Both modes narrate live, streaming each reply as it is written, and both keep you in control: regenerate the last reply, rewind a turn, or edit the last response. Adjust response length, and decide per story whether the AI may act on your character's behalf.
Long-Story Memory
Long campaigns stay coherent. The app keeps a running story summary plus smart recall of earlier events, so the GM remembers what happened many chapters ago. A story Codex tracks the characters, places, and facts your story establishes — including what each character believes versus what is actually true. Finishing an adventure produces a Chronicle: a lore entry attached to your character that carries into future stories.
The Forge — Build Your Own Game System
Design a complete tabletop RPG framework: stats, skills, classes, powers, equipment, dice mechanics, and character sheets. Start from one of ten ready-made system templates spanning fantasy, superhero, sci-fi, horror, and more, or build from scratch with the help of an AI design assistant you can talk to. A points-based superhero builder handles full build-cost accounting — budgets, disadvantages that grant points, and power modifiers.
Character Creator
The character creator reads your framework's actual rules: guided picks, point pools, and linked tables, producing a sheet that stays editable after creation. Characters live in your personal Library, sync across your devices, and progression from finished stories flows back into the saved character.
Multiplayer Rooms
Play under one shared AI GM with your group. Rooms support turn rotation in combat, party votes on big decisions with personal actions attached to your vote, spectator seats, host controls, and room age ratings. The Game-or-Story choice applies here too: hosts can open a Story Only room for pure group storytelling with zero setup. Bring a full character, import one from your Library, or grab a quick pre-made hero and jump in.
Voice
Talk to your party: voice messages in multiplayer rooms (works in the browser and on phones), real-time voice chat, and one-on-one voice calls with friends. In the shared world, proximity voice chat lets adventurers standing near you in the world hear you speak.
The Seasonal World
The Seasonal World is currently in closed testing: we are inviting testers from our most active players, and it opens to everyone soon. One persistent, always-on medieval-fantasy world shared by every player. The world keeps moving while you are away — zones advance on their own schedule and stories continue without you. Distances are real: every zone spans about ten miles, so travel takes honest time — hours on foot, faster by road or mount, slower through hard country — with the ETA shown before you set out. Travel a large multi-zone map with roads, portals, flight, and uncharted regions you can chart yourself, and watch the hand-painted world map fill in — painted terrain art of your surroundings, stitched into a region atlas and a world globe as coverage grows. You only learn about events your character witnessed or was near, you only know the places you have discovered or bought maps for, and meeting another player's character on the road is a real possibility.
Real Stakes
Death in the Seasonal World is real. Revival exists, but it has costs and rules — and Sanctuary Inns offer safety when you need to catch your breath. Settlements have persistent locals and NPCs, regional cultures, resources with special rules, bounties, and reputation that follows you.
Offline Alerts
On the mobile app, push notifications tell you when something happens to your character in the shared world while you are away.
Community
Share stories, scenarios, and game systems publicly, with age-rating gates on shared content. A community forum with categories, user profiles, friends and messaging, blocking, and privacy controls (including a friends-only mode) rounds out the social side. A referral program rewards both sides when you bring a friend. Shared spaces follow our community standards — the Community & Content Rules page (rulesforge.net/community-rules) explains what's allowed and how moderation works.
Accounts and Pricing
Sign in with email or Google. RulesForge has a free tier plus paid tiers; a points system pays for AI storytelling, with secure hosted checkout. You can also bring your own AI key. Account deletion is available any time with a 14-day grace period.
Web and Mobile
The full experience runs at rulesforge.net in any modern browser — desktop or phone. An Android app brings the same account, stories, characters, and world to your pocket, with everything kept in sync.
Soft Launch
RulesForge is in a soft launch. All of the features above are live, but we are actively polishing — so expect the occasional issue while we grow. If something misbehaves, the in-app feedback button goes straight to us, and the forum is a great place to report problems or suggest ideas.
